Chandor Club beat Cuncolim Union 2-0 to win the 18th All Goa Bro Eulalio Vaz memorial inter-village football tournament organised by Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda at DBC of Engineering, Fatorda ground on Saturday.
Both the teams displayed an attacking brand of football and kept the crowds on their toes throughout the contest. Chandor Club had their best chance in the early moments of the game when Benson Fernandes was well thwarted by rival defender Krishna Shirodkar with a neat tackle.
At the other end, Cuncolim Union too had their share of chances. Striker Sangam Gaonkar blew away an easy chance with only the rival goalkeeper to beat as he shot wide in the 4th minute. Moments later, Chandor striker Jest Martins muffed a sitter in an one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper.
Chandor Club's breakthrough came in the 12th minute when striker Benson Fernandes gently tapped it home off a Rosario Fernandes pass. Stunned by the setback, Cuncolim Union started attacking and it almost paid off in the 26th minute when striker Treyson D'Costa had a golden opportunity but his shot narrowly missed the mark.
​Chandor Club started the second half just like the first with their forwards launching a wave of attacks as Micky Fernandes and Bharat Gaonkar had easy chances but made a mess of it. Cuncolim Union came close to levelling the scores but Micky Fernandes's drive was well blocked by rival goalkeeper Presley Mascarenhas. Shaikh Shafik sealed the match for Chandor with a well-executed free kick.
Chandor Club were richer by Rs 50,000 and a trophy while Cuncolim Union had to settle for Rs 40,000 and
a trophy.
