Union of Chinchinim Villagers prevailed over United Club of Benaulim 8-7 via tiebreaker to cruise into the quarter-finals of All Goa Bernardo Furtado memorial inter village football tournament organized by Navelim Villagers Union at Rosary Ground, Navelim on Friday.
Both the teams were tied 2-2 at the end of regulation period. Rody Fernandes put Benaulim ahead in the 18th minute when he slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot. Stung by that setback, Chinchinim Villagers regrouped quickly and took the fight to the rival camp and neutralized the lead when John Fernandes beat the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish.
Post resumption, both the teams continued in same vein and showed urgency with strikers sending pot shots at the rival goal. Milred Rebello regained the lead for Benaulim soon after resumption. With time running out, John Fernandes struck a second time to level the scores for Chinchinim Villagers.
In the shootout, Jess Fernandes, Vicky Fernandes, Vincy Rebello, John Fernandes, Sunny Simoes and Domingos Rebello scored for Union of Chinchinim Villagers while Macwin Gracias, Sunny Rodrigues, Velency Afonso, Rody Fernandes and Macanzie Fernandes found the mark for UC Benaulim.
