An uninspired Guardian Angel Sports Club, Curchorem proved to be no match for Churchill Brothers Sports Club who cruised to a 4-1 victory in their GFA Under 20 Taca Goa League at SAG Artificial Turf Grounds, Fatorda on Tuesday. Churchill Bros led 4-0 at the break.
Churchill Brothers' Leander D'Cunha scored his first hat-trick finding the net in the 4th, 11th and 35th minute.Churchill Brothers started off on a positive note when Leander D'Cunha put his team in the lead in the very 4th minute when he slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot. Spurred by the early success, Churchill Bros intensified their attacks and pushed their opponents on the back foot.
Basawt Rai doubled the lead in the 8th minute when he picked up the ball from his own half and unleashed a stiff shot crashed into the net giving no chance to the Guardian Angel goalkeeper Christo Hilario in the 8th minute. Three minutes later, Guardian Angel were down where goalkeeper Christo Hilario was beaten fair and square off a power volley by Leander D'Cunha.
In the 35th minute, Leander D'Cunha registered his hat-trick when he punished the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish.
Post resumption, Guardian Angel put up a better display and had their share of chances but striker Alvito Moura breached the rival defence umpteen times, either his shot went over the crossbar or missed by a whisker. Alvito Moura who was kept quiet by the rival defenders in the opening session came alive in the second half with his speed and darting runs and nearly reduced the margin midway in the second half but Churchill Brothers goalkeeper Swisforn D'Silva parried away his snap shot. Later Rojef Colaco sent a beautiful cross from the right saw Alvito Moura's rasping volley was well blocked by Churchill Bros goalkeeper. Guardian Angel forwards shot wide from close range.
At the other end, Churchill had a couple of scoring chances but their forwards frittered away from handshaking distance. Guardian Angel, however, managed to pull one back through their captain Mairon Fernandes in the 62nd minute.
With this win, Churchill Bros collected 4 points from three matches while Guardian Angel suffered their third successive defeat from as many games.
