A superlative unbeaten ton by Craig Dourado (134) and an all-round performance by skipper Digesh Raikar for SAG (B) and some devastating bowling by Ishan Pandit and Heramb Parab SAG(A) were the highlights in the Goan team’s win over Nashik and Lucknow in the 1st Babu Naik All India Junior cricket tournament at Fatorda and Chicalim, Wednesday.

At Fatorda, SAG (A) captain won the toss and elected to bat. Contributions from Nagappa Konnur (30), Vrusaj Talaulikar (43), Shriyash Gawande (33), Tanvesh Chettri (24), Heramb Parab (41) and Ishan Pandit (23) helped the SAG (A) team to finish at 284 for 7 in 45 overs.

Omkar Tawre (3 for 21) was the most successful Nashik bowler. Airudh Das, Vivek Ishwarlal and Atharva took one wicket each.

Some devastating display of swing bowling by Heramb Parab (4 for 16) who took three wickets in his first three overs inspired Ishan Pandit (5 for 15) who then polished off the five wickets with Swapnil Malvi claiming one, dismissed the Nashik team for a paltry total of 49. Only Sharven Kisve (11) crossed double figures.

At Chicalim, SAG (B) won the toss and decided to bat. Manthan Khutkar (25) and Craig Dourado played the initial overs steadily to reach 66 when Manthan was out. Sanath Nevgi (8) did not last long and went for 89. Then Digesh Raikar (35) and Rutvik Naik (45 not out) hammered the Lucknow bowling to reach 297 for 3 in 45 overs. Pathak, Shubang and Ashwini took one wicket each.

At 103 for 2 it looked as if a fight was on the cards but Digesh (6 for 7) turned the match around dramatically as the visitors slumped to 123 all out. Unni Krishnan took one wicket and Gandhar Thakur scalped 2.

Lucknow will play Vijay Cricket Academy at Margao and SAG (A) will play SAG (B) in an all Goa match at Chicalim.
