Margao: CRCC Chinchinim booked their place in the quarterfinals of the 27th All Goa Our Lady of Merces 8-A-Side Inter-Village Football Tournament after prevailing 5-3 in the penalty shootout against Sao Jose de Areal following an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Chinchinim Church Grounds.
Sao Jose de Areal made a bright start and went ahead in the sixth minute when Azilton Viegas found the back of the net. CRCC Chinchinim responded strongly, with Leslie Costa restoring parity in the 22nd minute to leave the teams locked at 1-1 at the interval.
The second half continued in the same vein as Leslie grabbed his second goal of the match in the 33rd minute to give CRCC the lead. However, Areal hit back just three minutes later through Josley Gomes, who levelled the scores at 2-2 and forced the contest into a penalty shootout.
CRCC Chinchinim held their composure from the spot, with Rohan, Om, Leslie, Siegmund and Franky all converting their penalties. For Sao Jose de Areal, Mohamed, Ashwin and Josley were on target, but it was not enough as CRCC sealed a 5-3 shootout victory to progress to the last eight.
