Hosts Cuncolim Union continued with their brilliant winning run to blank Uguem's Rising Club 3-0 and storm into the semi-finals of All Goa 9th Cuncolim Union Trophy inter village football tournament organised by Cuncolim Union at Government Village School Playground, Cuncolim on Monday. All the goals came in the first half.
With the crowd's overwhelming support behind them, Cuncolim Union found the going easy against Rising Club. Cuncolim broke the deadlock through a spot kick in the 12th minute after attacking midfielder Frazier Fernandes was brought down by rival defender Seby Rodrigues inside the penalty box to earn a penalty. Micky Fernandes made no mistake with the spot kick, sending the rival goalkeeper the
wrong way.
Rising Club too had their share of chances and looked to level the scores. In the 14th minute, Israel Gomes's snap shot was well blocked by Cuncolim goalkeeper Shaik Sahil. Cuncolim Union continued their domination with their quick passing football and scored again in the 16th minute when Pangam Gaonkar unleashed a volley that crashed into the net, giving no chance to the rival goalkeeper Selwyn Pereira.
Down by the double blow, Rising Club were denied a reducer when Anil Gaonkar beat the rival rearguard but his shot missed the mark narrowly. Cuncolim Union sealed the rivals' fate in the 17th minute when Bharat Gaonkar beautifully carved a stinging shot that crashed into the net.
Post resumption, Cuncolim Union continued to dictate terms and made a couple of sorties in the rival box. At the other end, Rising Club went all out in search of goals and pressurised the rival defence but Cuncolim Union rearguard was strong in protecting the 3-0 cushion.
