Cuncolim Union scored a hard-fought 2-1 win over St Rock’s Youth Sports Club of Calata-Majorda to move into the last eight stage of the 40th St Joseph’s Festival inter village football tournament organized by Dramapur Sports Club at Dramapur ground on Sunday. All the goals were scored in the first session of play.
Cuncolim's Cliffton Fernandes broke the deadlock in the 10th minute when he slotted past the rival goalkeeper with snap shot. Spurred by the early success, Cuncolim Union upped the ante and doubled the lead in the 25th minute when Frazier Fernandes punished the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish. Down by the double blows, St Rock's Youth Club regrouped quickly and took the fight to the rival camp and in the 30th minute, Nelton Miranda converted a spot kick.
Crossing over, St Rock's adopted an aggressive approach and created many openings but their efforts were nullified by the rival defenders. At the other end, Cuncolim Union had couple of scoring chances but their forwards wasted from close range.
