Damodar English HS clinch inter-south school hockey crown

MARGAO: In an effort to revive and promote hockey in South Goa, where the sport has suffered due to a lack of infrastructure, playing grounds, turf facilities, government coaches and financial support for equipment, Innovation Socio Cultural Sports Association, in collaboration with Goans Hockey, organised the Inter-South School Hockey Tournament.
The tournament attracted participation from 10 schools, with teams competing on a league basis. Each team played three matches in the group stage to qualify for the semifinals.
In Pool B, St Anthony's School and St Jude Betalbatim advanced to the semifinals, while Damodar English High School and Loyola High School emerged from Pool A. Damodar English High School and St Jude Betalbatim eventually progressed to the final.
In the title clash, Damodar English High School defeated St Jude Betalbatim 2-0 to lift the championship trophy. The winners were also awarded cash prizes by Fr Ralin D'Souza, Rector of Don Bosco, Fatorda.
The tournament was inaugurated by former Goa Chief Minister Luizinho Faleiro. Also present on the occasion were Fr Gabriel Coutinho, Parish Priest of Navelim, Innovation president Abhay Bhaimaikar and Nelly Rodriguez.
