South District winners Damodar Higher Secondary School Gudi-Paroda thrashed North District winners St Xavier’s Higher Secondary Mapusa 5-0 to emerge State Champions of Inter Higher Secondary (U-19 Boys) Hockey tournament organised by Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs.
In a one-sided final played at PJN practice grounds Fatorda, the winners Damodar Higher Secondary School were leading by 2-0 margin at the breather. Rajesh Chari opened the scoring in the 10th minute of the match off a pass from Rohan Gaonkar. He doubled it in the 19th minute
off a pass from Dhiraj Gaonkar.
The whole second session was dominated by Damodar. Not a single move was initiated by St Xavier’s Higher Secondary School. Earlier, Deepak Talenkar, goalkeeper of Damodar HSS showed some good reflexes under the bar in the 1st half. In the 2nd session, Prabhakar Gaonkar scored the 3rd and 4th goal of a pass from Saish Gaonkar and Suraj Gaonkar respectively, while Gipson Vaz
made the issue more safer for Damodar, scoring the 5th goal.
The State hockey winners was represented by Narendra Gaonkar, Krishna Gaonkar, Sayish Gaonkar, Dhiraj Gaonkar, Rohan Gaonkar, Deepak Talenkar, Prabhakar Gaonkar, Avinash Gaonkar, Suraj Gaonkar, Jaison Fernandes, Melvin Mascarenhas, Rajesh Chari and Gibson Vaz.
