Hosts Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda beat Dicarpale Sports Club 3-2 via the penalty shootout to emerge champions of 19th Bro Eulalio Vas memorial football tournament organized by Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda in an exciting final at Don Bosco Ground, Fatorda on Sunday.

Backed by the home crowd, Don Bosco played well within themselves, defending with alacrity and enthusiasm, while creating chances and putting enough pressure on the Dicarpale defence. At the other hand, Dicarpale kept hunting for an early breakthrough but did not get any opening. Despite both the teams creating ample chances, the match remained goalless at half time.

Crossing over, Don Bosco created a couple of scoring chances but they could not breach the rival rearguard. Attacking midfielder Francis Andrade, who troubled the rival defence with his raids, came close to scoring but his left-footed drive missed the mark narrowly.

Dicarpale, on the other hand, had a crack at goal through Rayan Furtado but his volley was well blocked by the Don Bosco goalkeeper. With time running out, the teams managed to keep their slates clean to force

a tiebreaker.

In the penalty shootout, Don Bosco Oratory lads showed better nerves and converted through Francis Andrade, Valito Miranda and Nicolau Borges while only Rayan Furtado and Venson Figureido found the mark for Dicarpale Sports Club.

Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda were richer by ` 50,000 and received a winners’ trophy while Dicarpale Sports Club had to settle for a cash prize of ` 40,000 and a trophy. Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardessai was the chief guest and gave away

the prizes.
