The GCA Premier League 2016 commenced on Monday under the aegis of the Goa Cricket Association. In the three-dayer played at MCC Ground, Margao, at the end of Day1, the Panaji-based Dempo Cricket Club took the honours with a first innings lead against Sunny Sports Club (Sankhali).
Batting first, Sunny SC, folded up for 120 in 43.1 overs in their first innings. Lalit Yadav was their only batsman who stood with his head held high amidst the ruins with a well-compiled 82 coming from 95 balls, studded with 13 boundaries and a maximum. Jaipal Mada was the only other batsman in the innings to reach double digits with 11. For Dempo CC, Samad Fallah, Darshan Misal and Shiv Purohit picked three wickets apiece, while Amit Yadav took a wicket as well.
In reply to the meagre total, Dempo CC at stumps were in a commanding position at 141/3 in 41
overs with a 21-run lead and 7 wickets still in hand. Continuing from his magnificent form shown at the recently concluded GCL 2016, southpaw Sagun Kamat struck a delightful 57 (106 b, 9x4) with 17-year-old talent Kashyap Bakhale making 35 (73b, 5x4). Darshan Misal on 31 (30b, 4x4) and Jyot Chhaya on 12 (47b) were at the crease when stumps were drawn for the day. For Sunny SC, Karan Dagar picked up two wickets, while Saurabh Bandekar snapped a stick.
