Dempo Challengers register emphatic victory

MARGAO

In the GSB Unity Cup 3.0 tournament organized by the Goa GSB Sports & Charitable Trust, Dempo Challengers thrashed Shamrao Tridents by 87 runs in a floodlit encounter held at the MCC ground in Margao on Thursday.

After being invited to bat first, Dempo Challengers piled up a massive 216 for 4 in 20 overs. They then bundled out Shamrao Tridents for 129 runs in 16.5 overs.

For Dempo, Tunish Sawkar (53) and Samar Dubhashi (55) scored impressive half-centuries. The duo stitched together a crucial 118-run partnership for the third wicket. Tunish struck 2 fours and 3 sixes, while Samar's knock included 5 fours and a six. Skipper Aditya Angle also played a blistering, unbeaten cameo of 39 off just 15 balls, smashing 4 fours and 2 sixes. For Shamrao Tridents, Siddhant Kunde was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2 for 28.

Chasing a daunting target, Shamrao Tridents got off to a flying start through Deval Karmali (24 off 13 balls) and Abhijit Bhandare (51 off 21 balls, 5 fours, 4 sixes), who added 72 runs in just 5.3 overs for the opening wicket. However, Aditya Angle broke the partnership by clean bowling Karmali, triggering a dramatic collapse as Tridant's innings crumbled like a house of cards.

Angle led from the front with the ball, claiming 4 wickets for 19 runs. Raghuvir Gharse took 2 for 18, while Samar Dubhashi grabbed 2 wickets for just 2 runs.

Aditya Angle was adjudged the Desserts N More Player of the Match, while Samar Dubhashi received the Kamat Realty Hero of the Match award. The awards were presented by Dr. Sunil Kakodkar and Kapil Borkar.
