MARGAO: Dunes Sports Club prevailed over Xetrapal Sports Club 5-4 via tie-breaker to march into the quarter-finals of the North Goa McDowell’s No 1 Yaari Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Saligao United at Duler Ground, Mapusa on Friday.
Both the teams were tied 1-1 at regulation time. Dunes Sports Club started the game on an attacking note and came close to drawing first blood when Vivek Naik ‘s rasping shot was saved by the rival goalkeeper early on. As the game headed into the lemon break, Xetrapal Sports Club conceded a goal when Vivek Naik slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snapshot. The setback notwithstanding, Xetrapal Sports Club had a golden chance to cancel the lead but their attacker, Gopal squandered the open chance.
Crossing over, Dunes Sports Club enjoyed the better share of exchanges and had a couple of scoring chances to increase their tally. Dunes’ Alberto Britto ‘s attempt at the rival goal was well blocked by the opposition goalkeeper. Another chance to double the lead came their way, but the rival goalkeeper parried away the delivery to safety.
Meanwhile ,Xetrapal Sports Club nearly equalized when Sagar ‘s rasping shot was well blocked by Dunes’ goalkeeper. On the 60th minute, Dunes were unlucky when Shashank ‘s volley hit the crossbar much to the relief of the Xetrapal supporters.
Sagar neutrailzed the lead for Xetrapal Sports Club in the injury time to take the game into a tie-breaker.
In the ensuing penalty shoot out, Shashank, Stepelton , Myson and Jeramia converted for Dunes Sports Club while Vasu Deu, Gopal
and Sagar found the mark for Xetrapal
