A first half strike by Eldrich Coelho enabled Navelim Sporting Club eke out Curtorim Gymkhana 1-0 and seal a berth in the finals of All Goa 45th Custodio Memorial inter-village football tournament organised by Raia Sporting Club at Panchayat grounds, Raia on Saturday.
Both the teams played attacking soccer and kept the crowds on their toes.The all- important goal came in the 12th minute after Auelon Gomes cross via Jaison Pereira set up Coelho to leave Curtorim Gymkhana goalkeeper Johnson Bhagat high and dry. Stung by that setback, Curtorim Gymkhana went all out, however Navelim Sporting Club reargaurd offered a stubborn resistance and never allowed the rival attackers to navigate inside the penalty area.
Navelim Sporting Club had a couple of scoring chances but their forwards failed to beat the rival goalkeeper.
Changing ends, Curtorim Gymkhana came back with an organised flurry of attack as strikers Melvin Fernandes and Anthony Cardozo harassed the rival defence but to no avail. They lacked conviction in their build-up and rarely threatened the rival goal.
Navelim Sporting Club's attacks revolved around Eldrich who entertained the crowds with his darting runs into the rival penatly area with dash and speed.
