Goan Grandmaster Ethan Vaz has broken into the top 10 among Indian players under 20, according to the latest FIDE rating list figures published by Chess Second.
Vaz is ranked 10th with an Elo rating of 2,525, while fellow Goan Grandmaster Leon Luke Mendonca is fourth with a rating of 2,629, according to the chess-data website (chess-second.com).
The latest figures also highlight the growing depth of India's young chess talent, with 105 active players aged 20 or under rated 2,300 or higher, up from 75 a year ago.
Fourteen-year-olds Shaurya Chaudhary and Aarav Saish Amonkar crossed the 2,400 rating mark for the first time in the latest list.
Vaz had won silver at the National Under-17 Championship in Ahmedabad in April, finishing unbeaten with nine points from 11 rounds.
