Fatorda Football Club beat Salcete Football Club 1-0 to annex the title for Under-14 Snows Football Festival organized by Snows Football Academy, Raia at Panchayat Ground, Raia on Sunday. The all-important goal was scored by Ashlon Gomes. In the semifinals, Salcete FC had defeated Tilamaol Youth Sports Club, while Fatorda FC beat Youth Welfare of Passgem.
Awards: First scorer of the final - Ashlon Gomes of Fatorda Football Club, Man of the match - Hanslem Furtado of Fatorda, Best goalkeeper - Ryan of Salcete Football Club, and best defender - Aloysious of Salcete Football Club. Fatorda FC were richer by Rs 10,000 and won a glittering trophy while Salcete Football Club had to settle for Rs 7,000 and a trophy. Tilamol Youth Sports Club bagged Rs 3,000 for third-place finish.
“The basics in football development is controlling, passing and running with the ball. Our goal is how to develop football in the state,” Anthony Pango, president of Snows Football Academy, said. “It was great fun and the children simply loved it, asking for more and more.”
Anthony Leo Fernandes, sarpanch of VP Colva and executive member of GFA, was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of GFA Executive members Prakash Dessai, John Silva, Jaju Fernandes and Raju Adaipaikar, groundsman of Nehru Stadium, Fatorda. In all 16 teams participated.
