FC Siolim defeated United Club of Verna 7-5 on aggregate after a 3-3 draw in regulation time and a 4-2 win on penalties in the 51st Chandor Seamen Rolling Trophy football tournament at the Chandor Church Complex Ground.
Verna took the lead in the 18th minute through Myron Fernandes, but Siolim equalised through Sahil Hoble in the 30th. Arfan Sayed restored Verna’s lead two minutes later.
Siolim levelled again through Akshay Mandrekar in the 34th minute, before Hilton Fernandes put Verna ahead for the third time in the 40th minute.
Siolim fought back in the second half, with Vishal Bargalkar scoring in the 62nd minute to make it 3-3. Neither side could find a winner in the remaining minutes, sending the match to a penalty shootout.
Siolim held their nerve to win the shootout 4-2, with Vipul Pednekar, Vishal Bargalkar, Pushparaj Mandrekar and Tushal Haldankar converting. Desmon Pereira and Hilton Fernandes scored for Verna.
Pushparaj Mandrekar was named player of the match. The award was presented by former Chandor Club president Felix Furtado.
The tournament continues on Friday, with Cuncolim Union taking on Sao Jose de Areal at the Chandor Church Complex Ground.
