Former Don Bosco Oratory, Panaji and Panvel Sports Club defender Gabriel Silva passed away in a city hospital on Saturday.
The 72-year-old former footballer breathed his last on Saturday morning following a heart attack. He leaves behind his wife, two sons and a daughter.
Silva was considered among the best in business in Goa during his playing days. He had plenty of admirers. "His style of defending was really good and I have picked up several points from him. His death is a big loss for the Goan footabll fraternity," former India, Dempo and East Bengal coach Armando Colaco said in his tribute.
Among others, Alex Dias, under-20 coach of Curtorim Gymkhana; Arnaldo Costa, GFA executive committee member and Sebastiao Baretto have condoled the demise of Silva. His funeral will take place on Sunday at St Alex Church, Curtorim.
