Fr. Agnelo HS clinch inter-school hockey title

MARGAO

St. Michael’s Sports and Cultural Association organised an Inter-School Men’s Hockey Tournament recently at the Peddem Artificial Turf Ground, Mapusa.

Around 12 schools participated in the league-based event. In the final match, Fr. Agnelo High School, Pilar, defeated Damodar English High School. Every team received a Best Player award.

Chief guest Wilson D’Souza, DySP Mapusa, applauded the efforts of the players, encouraging them to participate actively in sports to develop discipline, team spirit, and to stay away from the vices affecting today’s youth. Sabina Araujo, Principal, and Camilo Fernandes, Headmaster of St. Michael School, also congratulated the participants for their exemplary performance.

During the tournament, Fr. Agnelo High School lodged a protest against Saraswati Vidyalaya for fielding a player who presented two different birth certificates—one as a Hockey India–registered player and another as a school identity document. This dispute briefly delayed the well-organised event managed by Atul Kankonkar and Eknath Gaonkar, Physical Education teachers of St. Michael School.

Abhay Bhamaikar, President of Goan Hockey, expressed pride in the young athletes, stating that the tournament provides an important platform for building confidence, exposure, and opportunities for the youth.
