According to Benjamin Silva, President of Futsal Association of Goa, futsal saw significant traction in the first edition and has gained momentum amongst the futsal buffs in the State. "It gives us immense pleasure to be able to facilitate the growth of the sports in the State through the association and enable it to be an integral part of the country's fastest growing sports," Silva said at a presser on Sunday.
Speaking further, Silva said that the participating players in the championship will be selected for the forthcoming Senior National Championship that will be held in Goa later this year.
The semi-finals and finals of the state championship will be held at Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda. Rs 75,000 and Rs 40,000 will be awarded to the winners and runners-up respectively. The championship will be conducted as per AMF laws of the game. Futsal is the shorter version of football with five players each, rolling substitutions, smaller sized ball, no off-side rule, side boundaries and 20-minute half. 36 teams in the men's and 13 in the women's category will be seen in action.
