GFA announces State senior women's squad

The Goa Football Association has named the Goa State senior women’s squad for the 27th Senior Women’s National Football Championship to be held at PJN Stadium, Fatorda, Margao from March 25 to April 2.

Goa squad: Prithi Srikant Kesarkar, Ashika Gadekar, Josline D’Souza, Scindia V Saundatikar, Kulsum B Shaik, Laura Estibeiro, Malvita Mascarenhas, Rhea Pires, Nusrat Kotewale, Alisha Tavares, Velanie Fernandes, Arpita Pednekar, Vailanka D’Souza, Namita Shripad Govekar, Sushmita Jadav, Puspa Parab, Joyvi Fernnades, Rizella Cia Almeida, Karen Estrocio, Aniela Barretto, Joizima Fernandes and Flani Costa; Officials: Girijadevi Desai (head coach), Gracy D’Costa (asst. coach), Sneha Dhargalkar (physiotherapist), Cosme Oliveira (manager). Goa is placed in Group III along with Andra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Odisha and Himachal Pradesh. Goa will play their first match on March 25 against Rajasthan at 4 pm at PJN Stadium, Fatorda.

Dicarpale SC outsmart Ambelim
Dicarpale SC beat Ambelim SC 9-8 via the tiebreaker and moved into the quarterfinals of the 2nd Macazana Panchayat Cup organised by Macazana Welfare Club at Macazana Panchayat ground on Thursday.

Milton Colaco opened the scoreline for Dicarpale in the 38th minute. Later in the second half, Ambelim SC equalised through Ceister Fernandes in the 58th minute.

In the tiebreaker, Dicarpale proved to be the better shooters. The man of the Match award was presented to Bonny Niasso of Dicarpale SC.

Saligao United in London Trophy semis
Saligao United scored a hard-fought 5-4 tiebreaker win over St Anthony Sports Club, Siolim to move into the semifinals of 15th London Trophy Inter-village football tournament organised by Goa Velha Sports Club at Goa Velha Sports Club ground.

Saligao United missed a glorious opportunity to surge ahead in the 13th minute of play but a Michael Dias header off a Dylan Dias free kick was saved by the Siolim keeper Sudhin Shirodkar. St. Anthony Sports Club, Marna wasted an opportunity in the 21st minute of play but a Dalesh Pednekar strike from top of the box off a corner by Sonu Mandrekar hit the crossbar and rebounded into play. At half time, the score read 0-0.

In the second half, Saligao United surged ahead in the 48th minute of play through a powerful header from Charnel Fernandes of a Nikhil Naik corner. St. Anthony Sports Club retaliated back immediately and nearly found the nets through Vidhesh Sawant whose well-struck shot hit the Saligao crossbar and rebounded into play.

Nikhil Naik missed an opportunity to increase the lead for Saligao United when he shot straight to the Siolim keeper Sudhin Shirodkar with just the Siolim keeper to beat in the 63rd minute of play. At the other end, Kashiram Pombuphekar of St Anthony Sports Club, Marna saw his header easily saved by the Saligao United keeper Augustin D'Mello in the 65th minute of play. Pushparaj Mandrekar scored the equaliser for St Anthony Sports Club, Marna in the added time of the second half when he tapped home from close beating the Saligao keeper Augustin D'Mello.

In the ensuing tiebreaker, Saligao United scored through Nikhil Naik, Nestor Dias, Sydney D'Mello, and Charnel Fernandes. St Anthony Sports Club, Marna scored through Sangam Pednekar, Nathan D'Souza, and Pushparaj Mandrekar. Vipul Pednekar's spot kick was saved by the Saligao keeper Augustin D'Mello while Kashiram Pombuphekar shot wide for St. Anthony Sports Club, Marna. Charnel Fernandes of Saligao United was awarded the Man of the Match by Anthony Florence Fernandes, ex-player and life member of Goa Velha Sports Club.
