GVM’s Gopal Govind Poy Raiturcar College of Commerce and Economics, Farmagudi, Ponda, and Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research Centre, Assagao, emerged as champions at Goa University’s 38th Inter-Collegiate Athletics Championship (Men & Women) 2025–26, held from December 16 to 18, 2025, at the S.A.G. Athletics Stadium, Bambolim.
Organised by Goa University, the three-day championship witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 900 athletes representing 46 affiliated colleges, making it one of the largest inter-collegiate sporting events in the state.
The championship was inaugurated by D. Ajay Gaude, Director, Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Goa, who was the chief guest at the opening ceremony.
A total of three meet records were broken during the competition. Riddhi Sawant of DM’s College, Assagao, set a new record in the women’s 400 metres hurdles with a timing of 1:12.02. The men’s 4x400 metres relay team of GVM’s GGPR College, Farmagudi, created a new meet record with a time of 3:32.98, while Rudra Bhosle of DM’s College, Assagao, rewrote the record in the men’s hammer throw with an effort of 37.71 metres.
The Best Athlete (Men) award was won by Vishal S. Das of VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce and Economics, Margao, while Rani Degvekar of Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research Centre, Assagao, was adjudged the Best Athlete (Women) of the championship.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Padmashri Brahmanand Shankhwalkar, former Indian football captain, as the chief guest. He was joined by Vivek Pawar, Deputy Director (Sports), Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Goa, the guest of honour, and Balachandra B. Jadar, Assistant Director of Physical Education and Sports, Goa University, who presented trophies and medals to the winners.
