Goa coach Prakash Mayenkar expressed his disappointment at the failure of youngsters to grab opportunities that has lead to the state being in ‘do or die’ situation, finding themselves on the verge of a drop from Elite to the Plate group.

Goa will have to beat Odisha in their final Ranji Trophy match of the season with a bonus point to save their ‘Elite’ status and even that may not be enough if Tripura-Team Rajasthan match produces an unfavourable result.

Coach Mayenkar told The Goan that he has advised the boys about the need to work very hard as Goa are now in a ‘do or die’ state. “After the match, I spent an hour with the boys and have impressed upon them the need to work very hard. We have to give our best in the remaining match. And you never know. (Nevertheless)...I am disappointed that the youngsters like Darshan Misal, Amogh Desai, Suyash Prabhudessai, Snehal Kauthankar and Amulya Pandrekar have not grabbed the opportunities this season. This was our first season without seniors as the team management had decided to go without them so that youngsters could prove themselves. I am sad that the younger players did not do justice to their talent. I am also sad that experienced batsman Sagun Kamat did not show consistency. Across the season, we had some great situations in some of the games but the team failed to take those moments and the results went the other way,” said Mayenkar.
