Goa Lions continued their winning run in the Goa Corporate League organised by Goa Cricket Association (GCA), defeating Tata Sports by six wickets at the GCA Academy ground in Porvorim on Friday.
The local team stayed unbeaten to top Group B with six points ahead of Tata Sports (4 points). They will now play ONGC, the second-placed team in Group A, in their semifinals on Saturday at 6.30 pm. Group A toppers DY Patil play Tata Sports in the first semifinal earlier in the day at 2 pm at GCA Academy ground. The final will be played
on Sunday.
Tata Sports won the toss and elected to bat and scored 159 for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Captain Nikhil Patil top-scored for Tata Sports with 67 not out. Chirag Khurana (40) and Sufiyan Shaikh (28) were the other major contributors for Tata. Suyash Prabhudesai was the most successful bowler for Goa Lions, claiming three wickets in his four overs.
Goa Lions reached the target for the loss of three wickets in 19.3 overs. Captain Amogh Desai top-scored with 64 while Vaibhav Gaonkar, who scored 63, won the Man of the match award at the hands of GCA co-opted member Veena Phadte.
In the concluding match of group stage, ONGC beat Vijaya Bank by six wickets. Vijaya Bank posted 174/5 and ONGC (177/4) knocked off the runs in 17.4 overs.
