Salgaocar Football Club boys registered an impressive 5-0 victory over Churchill Brothers Football Club in a Goa Zone match of Hero Sub-junior League at Nagoa Sports Complex, on Thursday. Salgaocar led 4-0 at the break.
Right from the first whistle, Salgaocar wanted to stamp their dominance and it took them only 12 minutes to do so when Joen Simoes’ swerving flag kick beat the Churchill goalkeeper, 1-0. Churchill had hardly recovered from the early blow when Flan Crasto doubled the lead for the Greens in the 17th minute as his shot brushed past the hands of goalkeeper Manure Manki, into the Churchill goal.Down 0-2, Churchill upped the ante and Ismail Shaikh was foiled by rival defender Hayden Fernandes. Salgaocar stuck to their attacking intent and in the 32nd minute, Salvador Gama added his name on the scorers’ list with a neat finish. A desperate Churchill pressed hard but were not on the mark with their finishing as Dalwin Coelho’s volley missed the target narrowly. Salgaocar put the result beyond doubt when striker Rui Carlo de Piedade Noronha slotted past the rival goalkeeper with snap shot at the stroke of the break.
Salgaocar started the second half with the same aggressive intent and Rui struck his brace for the team’s fifth goal in the 47th minute. Churchill put in the hard yards but were not able to break their duck as the young Greens ran away 5-0 victors.
Meanwhile in another Goa zone match at Don Bosco ground, Panaji, Dempo SC edged out hosts Sporting Clube de Goa 1-0.
