Calangute Association made short work of hosts Goa Police Sports Club 3-1 to romp into the quarterfinals of the Goa Police Cup, organised by Goa Sports Club Sports Cell, at Dramapur ground on Wednesday. Calangute Association led 2-1 at half-time.
Calangute Association enjoyed 75 per cent possession and in the 15th minute, Jesloy Minz ran past the rival defence, beating the rival goalkeeper. Stung by the setback, Goa Police regrouped quickly and in the 30th minute, Shaikh Salvia cancelled the lead with a nice placement. Unfazed, Calangute Association went into an attacking mode and backed by passionate fans, raised the tempo of their game.
Calangute Association had an upper hand and Harshad Naik regained the lead for the beachside team in the 35th minute. Post resumption, Calangute Association upped the ante and troubled the rival defence with consistent raids.
However, they had to wait till the 76th minute for their next goal as Moises D’Sa put the issue beyond doubt. Earlier, the cops tried their best to come back into the game but their forays were thwarted by the rival defenders.
