FC Goa delivered a dominant display to overwhelm Vasco SC 5-0 in their Goa Professional League match at Duler Stadium on Thursday, turning early control into a one-sided contest through pace, precision and clinical finishing.
The breakthrough came in the 10th minute when Konsam Singh split the defence with a measured pass for Shawn Fernandes, who finished confidently to give FC Goa an early lead. The side then settled into a rhythm, monopolising possession and leaving Vasco chasing for long spells.
Vasco’s task became harder just before the break when a dangerous ball driven into the box by Shaikh Ismail caused confusion in defence, with Clarrie Almeida turning the ball into his own net under pressure. FC Goa went into halftime firmly in control at 2-0.
There was little respite after the restart. In the 57th minute, Mervin Domnic Fernandes lofted a composed pass over the back line to Vellington Fernandes, who made no mistake in a one-on-one situation to extend the lead.
FC Goa struck again nine minutes later as Wesley D’Sa’s long forward ball released Jovial Dias, who squared neatly for Shawn Fernandes to register his second goal and make it 4-0.
The rout was completed in the 73rd minute when Bryson Pereira switched play to Shaikh Ismail, and the forward drove his shot past the goalkeeper to underline the gulf between the sides.
Late bookings for Michael Silva and Sitroy Carvalho did little to change the narrative, as FC Goa’s sharp movement, intelligent passing and ruthless finishing sealed a comprehensive victory.
