Saying that Goa is ready to host the Formula 4 Indian Championship on February 14 and 15, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said the event will place the State on the global motorsports map, boost tourism, build sports culture and create job opportunities.

Sawant spoke after visiting the racing venue at Manohar International Airport, Mopa, where he reviewed the preparations and operational readiness of the circuit with government officials and organisers, Racing Promotions Private Limited (RPPL). Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar and CEO of the Entertainment Society of Goa, Asvin Chandru, IAS, were also present.

Arlekar said he supports the championship and that the government is fully backing the event.

Mandrem MLA Jeet Arolkar also said he is in favour of the race.

“The Formula 4 Indian Championship will not only strengthen a highly competitive sporting event, it will also attract tourists from different countries,” he said.

The two-day Indian Racing Festival will be held at the Goa Street Circuit inside the Mopa airport complex. It will be the next round of the championship after Coimbatore. Organisers said the 2-km circuit is designed to provide a visual spectacle.

Sources said a special feature of the championship is its inclusive team format. Each team will have four drivers — one experienced international driver, one emerging global talent, one Indian driver and one woman driver.
