Representatives of political parties on Thursday asked whether the authorities will use the new electoral roll prepared after the SIR process or the old roll for the upcoming municipal elections.
When the question was put to the Election Commission of India’s roll observer for South Goa, Sandeep Jacques, he said the election authorities will take an appropriate decision on which roll will be used.
The issue is important because thousands of names are expected to be removed from the South Goa electoral roll after the ongoing SIR process is completed.
This has raised doubts over whether the revised roll will be used for the civic polls or if the old roll will remain in place. However, there was no clear reply from the authorities, with Jacques saying the matter will be decided by them.
After Congress representative Savio Coutinho said that hundreds of voters may lose their names from the list following the SIR process, Jacques said those whose names are deleted due to lack of documents can apply again by submitting the required papers to the authorities.
