Goa suffer one-wicket heartbreak

PANAJI

Goa suffered a dramatic one-wicket defeat against KSCA President's XI in their opening four-day match of the Dr (Capt) K Thimmappiah Memorial Cricket Tournament in Bengaluru. Goa, who had set a target of 150, came agonisingly close to victory before the hosts’ last-wicket pair pulled off a remarkable chase at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Goa had reduced KSCA President's XI to 8/100 while defending the modest target. With 13 runs still required, Goa dismissed the ninth wicket, leaving them just one wicket away from victory. However, Shikhar Shetty (28 not out) and Mohsin Khan (6 not out) held their nerve to deny Goa and complete the chase at 151/9 in 42.1 overs.

Goa's Ruthvik Naik was the standout performer with the ball, claiming five wickets for 32 runs. Vasuki Koushik, Darshan Misal, Vijesh Prabhudesai and Lalit Yadav took a wicket apiece.

Earlier, Goa had resumed their second innings at 167/8 and were bowled out for 207 in 40.1 overs. KSCA President's XI had earlier secured a 58-run first-innings lead after scoring 396, against Goa's 332.

Goa will look to bounce back in their next match against Vidarbha Cricket Association, scheduled from September 7 to 10 at the IAF Ground.
