Hosts Goa Velha Sports Club scored an easy 3-0 win over debutants United Sports Club Mardol to move into the quarterfinals of 13th London Trophy 2019, organised by Goa Velha Sports Club, at Goa Velha Sports Club ground, on Sunday.
Goa Velha surged ahead in the 10th minute through their skipper Joseph Rodrigues as he shot past USC Mardol keeper Krishna Gaude. Chatur Naik missed a chance to inflate the lead for Goa Velha as his powerful effort from top of the box missed the target by a whisker, off a Joseph Rodrigues pass in the 20th minute.
In the 22nd minute of play, Goa Velha keeper Agnelo Silva came up with a diving save before Mahesh Naik could attempt to shoot at the goal. Goa Velha led by the solitary goal at half time.
In the second half, Arun Naik consolidated the lead for the hosts in the 50th minute as his long shot from the left wing landed in the Mardol nets, taking the Mardol keeper Krishna Gaude by surprise.
In the 56th minute, USC Mardol’s prolific striker Cletus Godinho saw his powerfully struck shot being punched out for a corner by the Goa Velha SC keeper Agnelo Silva. Ryan Kispotta rounded off the score to make it 3-0 in favour of the hosts with virtually the last kick of
the match.
