The 1st edition of the Goa Volleyball Cup organised by Dhargal United will take place from April 20-30 at Shirgal, Dhargal, this was announced at a press briefing in a city hotel on Tuesday.
The grand tournament budgeted at Rs 10 lakh will feature a record 48 teams from across the 12 talukas which would be divided into two groups. With a record number of entries, the organizers, Dhargal United which was established in 1993 has attempted to give a chance to every participating team to showcase their mettle in order to come into limelight.
The prize structure for the lucrative tourney is as follows: Winners Rs 60000,trophy, jersey set,individual trophies, gifts, 4 volleyballs and net. Runners-up: Rs 40000, trophy, jersey set, gifts, 4 volleyballs, net. Semi losers: Rs 10000, jersey set, 4 volleyballs,net. Quarter final losers: Rs 3000, 1 volleyball.
The participating teams who fail to reach the quarter finals will be provided Rs 1000 each and a volleyball. The other individual prizes include: Best attacker- Rs 5000, trophy. Best setter- Rs 5000,trophy. Best defender- Rs 5000, trophy. Best all-rounder “ Rs 5000, trophy. Best upcoming player “ Rs 2000, trophy.
There would be five games played daily, starting 7 pm onwards. Top players like Pappu Dhawaskar, Milind Bodke, Aaron Pereira and Prahlad Dhawaskar will be the star attraction in a competitive field. Top contenders for the title of the first edition of the Goa Volleyball Cup are Goa Police, Kulmaya Sports Club (Bicholim), Dhargal United and Om Shiv Shambhu (Merces).
The tournament organizers have promised that they will try and abide by the rules and regulations of

The organizing committee of the said tourney will felicitate the young spikers who have done the State proud at the National and International level as well as former stalwarts of the game who have brought pride to Goa.
