Goan cyclist, 54-year-old Dr Belinda Viegas-Mueller from Carmona, Salcete, has entered the Limca Book of Records, for being the only woman cyclist to complete three 1,200 km brevets in one year (2014-15).
Brevets are timed, long-distance cycling events. A 1,200 km event is to be completed within 90 hrs or less.
Dr Mueller, who is a practicing psychiatrist, completed the Daal Baati 1,200 km brevet held in Rajasthan from February 27 to March 2, 2014, becoming the first Indian woman to accomplish it. She went on to complete the Goan Yoyo 1,200 km brevet held in Goa-Maharashtra-Karnataka from January 24 to 27, 2015 and the Daal Baati Churma 1200 km brevet held in Gurgaon from February 18 to 21, 2015, becoming the first woman to be credited with two such achievements in a month.
With three 1200 km brevets completed within 12 months (2014-15), she is also the only woman to have done it thrice in a year.
Dr Belinda cycles under the banner of Cycling Goa, which is a registered body, involved in the promotion of long distance and other cycling-related events. She is known as the iron lady of cycling among her die-hard cycling colleagues.
She also holds the title of the only woman super randonneur in Goa having completed the 200 km, 300 km, 400 km and 600 km cycling events in one calendar year.
