Goan sports received a boost with two state players selected to represent India at the South Asian Dripball Game Championship, while another Goan has been appointed as a Technical Official for the international event.
Aniket Jagannath Gauns and promising youngster Sairaj Umesh Amonkar will don the Indian colours at the championship, scheduled to be held in Kathmandu, Nepal, from August 29 to 30.
Gauns, who is serving as contractual teaching staff at Shri Pandurang D. Raut Higher Secondary School, Mulgao, will be part of the Indian squad. Amonkar, a Class IX student of Saraswat Vidyalaya, Mapusa, is another Goan selected for the national team.
Adding to Goa’s representation, Dhiraj N. Matonkar has been appointed as a Technical Official for the championship. Matonkar, an AI and ICT educator at Shri Pandurang D. Raut Higher Secondary School, Mulgao, Assonora, will officiate key matches during the tournament.
The two-day championship will bring together national teams from Nepal, India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The Goan contingent expressed enthusiasm ahead of the international challenge, while the Dripball Association of Goa congratulated the trio and expressed confidence in their contribution to India’s campaign in Kathmandu.
