Goa's Noel Noronha and Sachin Soares moved into the quarter-finals in the men's 40+ team event in the Forza International Veteran Cup 2017 Table Tennis championship organised by Goa Table Tennis Association in collaboration with Forza Sports Management and Sports Authority of Goa, at Dr SP Mukherjee stadium, Taleigao.
The Goan paddlers won their qualifying league matches to reach the knock-out stage where Team Goa beat Team Fantastic Four 3-1 in the pre-quarterfinals. Sachin Soares (Goa) lost to Ganpati Pai 5-11, 7-11, 11-13; Noel Noronha (Goa) bt Vinodh R 11-7, 11-8, 11-9; Noel/Sachin bt Ravindra J/Harshad P 11-5, 11-8, 11-8; Noel Noronha bt Ganpati Pai 13-11, 11-13, 11-7, 11-8.
In veterans 50+ team category, former India international Sunil Babras, teaming up with Vivek Alawani (Team Thinq A), reached the finals where they will face the challenge of the Punjab Team comprising of Pankaj Sharma, Vivek Arora, Harish Kakkar and Subhamay Chaterjee.
The women's 50+ team finals will be contested between Slammers (Suhasini Bakre, Mantu Murmur and Maitry Karaby) and Indian Beauties (Neeta Kulkarni, Dr Anagha Joshi and Manisha Kataria).
