Goa's Jacky Fernandes led the pack of 43 wordsmiths from across the country on the opening day at the 13th All India Open Scrabble tournament organised by the Scrabble Association of Goa at PCCE College, Verna.
The top 10 at the end of Round 8 on Day 1 are as follows: 1. Jacky Fernandes (Goa, 6 points, +850 spread), 2. Carolann Pais (Mumbai, 6, +678), 3. Ranganathan Chakravarthy (Chennai, 6, +648), 4. Mohan Chunkath (Chennai, 6, +524), 5. PC Jose (Mumbai, 6, +473), 6. Udayan Grover (Pune, 6, +470), 7. Irineu Gonsalves (Goa, 6, +160), 8. Pramit Kamath (Delhi, 5, +392), 9. R Nalini (Bengaluru, 5, +348), 10. Charles Carneiro (Delhi, 5, +293).
Spot Prizes were won by Rajiv Antao (Goa) for Highest ‘J’ Word for round 3 with JOGS fetching him 60 points, while with QINS (46 points), Bhushan Pradhan (Mumbai) got the accolades for the Highest ‘Q’ word for round 6.
