Goa’s promising young boxer Kaniska Nimbooria, training at the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) Regional Coaching Centre (RCC), Salvador do Mundo, brought laurels to the state by securing a Bronze Medal at the ongoing Boxing Federation of India (BFI) Sub Junior Boys & Girls National Championship being held at Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar, Punjab.
Kaniska delivered an impressive performance in the Sub Junior Girls category throughout the championship under the guidance of SAG Boxing Coach Chitamber Naik.
Her campaign began with a dominant 5-0 victory over Uttar Pradesh in the pre-quarterfinals, followed by another commanding 5-0 win against Tamil Nadu in the quarterfinals, which secured her a medal berth.
In the semi-finals, Kaniska faced a strong opponent from Haryana and bowed out after a 5-0 decision, earning a well-deserved bronze medal.
Kaniska was part of the Goa contingent comprising 15 Sub Junior boys and girls, which was accompanied and guided by SAG coaches Chitamber Naik and Vishwanath Govekar (Naik) during the national championship.
The overall performance of the Goan contingent was encouraging, with seven boxers — six girls and one boy — advancing to the quarterfinal stage, reflecting the growing strength of grassroots boxing development in the state.
Appreciating the achievement, Francis Viegas, President of the Goa Amateur Boxing Association (GABA), said, "GABA appreciates the performance of Kaniska Nimbooria, who has won a bronze medal at the BFI Sub Juniors National Championship, and we are really proud of our Sub Junior Boxing Team’s performance, ably trained and seconded by SAG Boxing coaches Chitamber Naik and Vishwanath Govekar."
