Guardian Angel SC came from behind to down Corps of Signals 2-1 in the Goa Football Association's (GFA) Goa Professional League match, at Duler Stadium, Mapusa,
on Sunday.
Perryson Rebello and Abel Hammond scored for the winners while Cyril Dias scored for Signals. Guardian Angel had the chance to take the lead in the third minute when Myron Borges was brought down in the box by Corps of Signals defender Paul Victor. The Curchorem side's foreign recruit Abel Hammond stepped over, but his effort went metres off target.
Corps of Signals keeper was forced into action by Guardian Angel attackers at they kept pressing to find the breakthrough, but their strikers couldn't get the better of rival keeper Niyas. First, he denied Myron Fernandes with a diving save and then went on to frustrate Abel once again by obstructing
his shot.
The Curchorem side lacked the sharpness in front of the goal as once again Abel, on receiving a fine through ball from Lincon, couldn't make the best use of it. Corps of Signals too had their chances, but like Guardian Angel, they too couldn't convert them. Pawan Thakur's freekick was easily swallowed by the rival keeper and then his team-mate Solomon hit way off target with only the opposition keeper at his mercy.
Corps of Signals took the lead just before the breather when Th Roshan Singh found Cyril Dias in the box, who clinically beat the rival keeper. Crossing over, Guardian Angel dominated the opening minutes of the session. The Curchorem side didn't take long to level terms as Perryson Rebello scored the equaliser at the hour mark, when he was found by Nicholas Rodrigues in the box.
The goal pumped up the Guardian Angel SC camp and they finally scored the match winner in the 86th minute through Abel Hammond, who scored off a Nicholas corner kick, making amends for his earlier miss, and secured three points for
his side.
