Guardian Angel Sports Club, Curchorem, defeated United Club, Seraulim, 3-2 to advance to the semifinals of the Mount Carmel Festival Trophy, organised by Mount Carmel Chapel, Telaulim, in association with United Club of Telaulim. Prosan Mandal scored twice to give United Club, Seraulim, the advantage, but Guardian Angels fought back through a brace from Freezer Gomes to level the score. Adriano then struck in the dying minutes to seal a 3-2 victory for Guardian Angels. Gomes was named man of the match and received the award from a former Churchill Brothers footballer from Varca. Guardian Angel will face United Boys of Ambaulim in the semifinals scheduled for October 13.
Benaulim Veterans edge Verna Veterans
MARGAO: Benaulim Veterans edged past Verna Veterans 2-1 in the inaugural match organised by Teg Amigos Verna at Verna Panchayat Ground, with Sohan D’Costa scoring the decisive goal in the closing minutes. Sheitu Jose gave Benaulim an early lead with a long-range strike in the third minute. Franky Fernandes equalised for Verna before half-time. Both teams created opportunities in the second half, but D’Costa struck late to secure victory for Benaulim. He was named man of the match and received the award from former international footballer Norbert Gonsalves. Chief guest M M Mutawali attended the occasion along with guest of honour Fr Lucio Dias, Norbert Gonsalves, Jose D’Souza, Jose Fernandes, Isdorio Rodrigues, Edwin Rodrigues and Rafeal Menezes.
Marcus goal sinks Quepem Veterans
MARGAO: Marc Caterers defeated Quepem Veterans 1-0 in the Flame of Unity veterans football tournament organised by Flame of Unity SC at Mabai Ground, Seraulim, on Saturday. Marcus Carvalho scored the decisive goal to secure victory for Marc Caterers and help them advance in the tournament.
