A brace each by Aniston Fernandes and Nigerian striker Yakubu Mohammed enabled Guardian Angel Sports Club to trounce Football Club de Bardez by a huge 6-0 margin in the 19th round match of Goa Professional League, organised by Goa Football Association, at Duler Stadium, here on Monday. Guardian Angel struck three goals in each session of play.

After the win, Guardian Angel stand on 5th position with 20 points from 15 matches, while Bardez are struggling at the bottom half of the table in 10th position with 15 points from the same number of matches.

Climax Lawrence took charge of the Bardez side in the absence of their head coach Armando Colaco and made two changes in his starting line-up after having lost to Panjim Footballers in their last match, fielding Stany Braganza and Micky Vaz. At the other end, Angel coach Riston Rodrigues started with the same squad that had lost against Sporting Clube de Goa in the previous round match.

It was the Angel colts that scored the fastest goal in the ongoing league when the match was just 30 seconds old as Aniston Fernandes collected a pass from his skipper Nicholas Rodrigues and shot past the rival Bardez keeper David Chauhan from

close, 1-0.

Bardez, who had 10 corners in the first session, failed to score despite having a number of chances which the midfield created for their strikers upfront. Angel keeper Ram Sroop then dived to push Clinton Niasso’s goal-bound free kick for a corner, while a few minutes later, Clinton shot wide from close after getting a perfect cross from Shubham Rao Desai in the box.

While Pink Brigade failed to score, Angel extended their lead in the 20th minute when Nigerian striker Yakubu Mohammed made no mistake to head the ball home from close after getting a perfect cross from Nicholas Rodrigues. Another chance went in vain for Bardez when they were awarded a free kick just outside the box, but Clinton’s strike rebounded off the crossbar. With just four minutes left for the breather, Angel pumped in their third goal. Bardez defenders failed to clear Yakubu’s low cross in the box where an unmarked Clifton Dias slotted the ball into the nets, 3-0.

On resumption of play, in the 49th minute, Clinton missed to score from an open sitter as his lob went out with just Angel custodian Ram at his mercy. At the other end, Angel further increased their lead in the 51st minute when Yakubu, collecting a through pass from Aniston, latched a hot-blooded shot which brushed the keeper’s hand and entered the

goal, 4-0.

If not for the woodwork, Nicolau Colaco would have added his name to the scorers’ list as his 40-yard strike hit the upright. In the last quarter of the match, Angel’s hunger for goals did not end as they scored in the 75th and 90th minutes of the match.

Aniston scored his brace as he connected Perryson Rebello’s diagonal pass with a blistering right-footer which had a touch of the rival keeper, before entering the goal, 5-0. Skipper Nicholas, who was instrumental in number of goals, finally found the net himself as he tapped the ball into the goal after Nicolau had done the spadework, 6-0.
