STP Banrar squeezed past SK Superkings 2-1 in the first match on Day 2 of Sanquelim Football League at Sanquelim Municipal ground on Sunday.
STP time and again came close to opening their account, where Rajat Sawant failed to connect from close, while a minute later his powerful header off a Muyeez Eilival cross went out. Another chance went begging for the STP when Priyanand Surlikar failed to connect from close off Muyeez’s corner.
However in the 25th minute, Rajat Sawant smartly made a lay-off to Muyeez, who covered some ground before blasting it in the goal to put his side ahead.
At the other end, Siddhesh Tilnaik and Ashwin Sawal made few attempts on the rival goal but STP keeper Geetesh Sawant was competent enough to clear every danger. On crossing over, STP doubled their lead through Muyeez who completed his brace after receiving a perfect through pass from Kasim Sawant.
Down by two goals, the Superkings coach brought in Scully John to replace Ravi Thapa and the striker showed his calibre within few minutes after coming in as he reduced the margin with a fine tap-in from close after receiving a curling cross from the Siddhesh Tilnaik.
In the day’s second match, Verekar Brothers drubbed Amhi Sakhalikar 3-0.
Skipper Rudresh Mandrekar scored a spectacular goal in the 17th minute, while substitute Albaz Khan doubled their tally in the second half. In the dying minutes, Sakhalikar defender Raju Abbigari scored an own goal to help the opponents seal
their victory.
