In the first half, the Arambol outfit was the more dominant of the two sides and enjoyed better of
ball possession.
Holy Cross could have broken the deadlock in the 23rd minute when a strike by Shashank Ashwekar almost got through the gloves of ICSC shot-stopper, Presley Mascarenhas who recovered in the nick of time.
Five minutes from the breather, Holy Cross had two successive strikes at goal with first Sangam Pednekar then Shashank’s efforts being parried away by the
rival keeper.
ICSC tried to get into the game early in the second half when in the 48th minute Manesh Oliveira’s long-range effort was smartly punched over the horizontal by the portly Holy Cross SC goalkeeper, Kewan D’Souza.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 66th minute when the Holy Cross SC substitute Dietmar Fernandes capitalized on a neat pass splitting the defence of the opposite to bulge
the nets.
In the 77th minute, Holy Cross SC could have doubled their lead when another substitute Hemant Rodrigues muffed up an easy chance from a cross received from Sangam Pednekar.
