Holy Spirit Institute, Margao played with plenty of grit and determination to score a hard-fought 1-0 win against holders Rosary Higher Secondary School, Navelim and storm into the final of Salcete Taluka Under-17 Subroto Mukherjee inter school football tournament organized by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs at SAG Artificial Turf Ground, Fatorda on Tuesday.
The keenly contested match witnessed the all-important goal scored by substitute Pushkar Prabhu of the Margao outfit in the 28th minute.
In an absorbing encounter, both the teams displayed an attacking brand of soccer. It was Rosary HSS who had the first look at the goal as early in the seventh minute. Rosary’s Joebern Cardozo picked up the ball from Delzan Passanha with the former outwitting a host of defenders. However Holy Spirit’s Institute goalkeeper, Vishal Fernandes rose to the occasion to parry the ball away to safety.
At the other end, Holy Spirit Institute had their opportunity as well but the tryst at goal by their attackers, Mevan Dias and Saideep Pomburepkar were blocked by the Navelim goalkeeper.On the 28th minute when Pushkar Prabhu drilled a hole into the rival back-wall with a blistering strike giving no chance whatsoever to the rival goalkeeper off an Aditya Salgaocar assist.
Crossing over, Rosary Higher Secondary School looked good in possession and enjoyed the better share of exchanges. Vishal Kumar had a good day under the Holy Spirit Institute horizontal preventing the opposition strikers from levelling the score. Asfin Pinto, Stewart De Mello and Joebern Cardozo went all out. However the Holy Spirit Institute custodian kept the Rosary attackersat bay with a superlative performance.
In another semi-final, Fr Agnel Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, Verna humbled Mae dos Pobres High School, Nuvem 3-0 .Fr Agnel Multipurpose HSS dominated the game and pushed their opponents on the back foot from the outset. Alloid Colaco, Kanaiya and Sweton Rebello were the goal-getters for the winners.
