Prime Minister Narendra Modi's second season of 'Pariksha Pe Charcha', streamed live across many educational institutes in the State on Tuesday, got a mixed response from Goan students.
Two Goa University students from the History and English departments said that they found the session interactive and that they could relate a lot to what the Prime Minister was talking about. "It wasn't like a formal function, and it helped me even though it wasn't really for post-graduate students," said one of them. The other said that though it wasn't compulsory, a lot of students showed up and found it a good session.
Devansh Cholera, a final year student of Mechanical Engineering from Goa College of Engineering said, "I found our PM's advice very practical and in sync with what the future demands from us. It wasn't at all like conservative opinion which would be more like get your heads down and study".
However, the session didn't go down too well for all students with a Vasco-based student studying in an institute of higher learning saying, "We all laughed through it. The session was a load of cliches where the PM spoke about age old stuff like how parents shouldn't compare their kids to other kids, or force their own dreams on their kids. My classmates and I were not really happy to be sitting through this." The student also said that some of the students were working on their laptops through the session.
Many students, and teachers, when contacted had no idea whether or not the session was streamed in their institute. The Directorate of Education had on January 24 sent out a circular to all heads of secondary and higher secondary schools informing them to make arrangements for viewing/hearing the telecast. The circular said the arrangements made by schools could be uploaded through the Pariksha Pe Charcha tracker. And that photographs and videos of students viewing or hearing the live telecast could be uploaded to Google Drive.
