MARGAO

Salgaocar FC showed good coordination and worked well as a unit to humble Calangute Association by an emphatic 7-3 score-line in GFA’s Professional League game at SAG Ground, Utorda on Monday.

Devandra Murgaonkar led Salgaocar FC’s charge as he scored a brilliant hat-trick. However, it was Calangute Association who took the early lead. In the 15th minute, Mohammed Shashsad capitalized on a miss pass to punish Salgaocar FC goalkeepeer S Ragini Kumar with a neat finish.

Salgaocar were soon to overcome their shaky start and control the tempo of the match. In the 22nd minute, Salgaocar equalised with Devendra Murgaonkar beating rival goalkeeper Shubham Naik with a clincial finish to make the score line 1-1.

While the Salgaocar attacks line pressurized the Calangute Association defence line, the Salgaocar midfield cancelled and intercepted the Calangute Association attempts to foray forward. In the 38th minute, Green Brigade’s Devendra Murgaonkar slotted past the rival goalkeeper with an assist from captain Mackroy Peixoto to make it 2-1, as the game went into half time.

Post resumption, Ronaldo Olveira and Devendra Murgaonkar were relentless in attack. Storming down the flanks, Samson Pereira punished rival goalkeeper Shubham Naik with an adroit placement in the 51st minute to make it 3-1.

Three minutes later, Davendra Murgaonkar registered his hat-trick with a stiff shot to make it 4-1. Shortly after, midfielder Domnick Fernandes scored a goal to give Calangute Association some hope of a fight back at 4-2.

The reducer boosted the morale of Calangute Association, but it was not meant to be. Striker Ronaldo Olveira, who was in the thick of action earlier, added his name to the scorer list when he beat the rival goalkeeper with nice placement to make it 5-2.

Down by 2- 5, Calangute Association upped the ante and in the 74th minute, Mohammed Shahsad register his brace to make it 3-5 in favour of Salgaocar FC at 3-5.

Salgaocar FC then scored two more goals through Ronaldo Olverira ( 89th minute) and substitute Stephen Satarkar’s injury time strike.
