Panaji
The 6th Fomento All India Fide rating chess Tournament began at the Institute of Menezes Braganza hall, here on Wednesday.
The tournament is being organized by Rudreshwar Panaji under the aegis of All India Chess Federation, Goa Chess Association & Tiswadi Taluka Chess Association. In all, 189 players have participated in this tournament which includes two International Masters,1 Fide Master,1 Candidate Master,1 AIM, 1 AGM and 1 AFM from Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya P
radesh, Kerala, Andra Pradesh, Telangana and hosts Goa.
The tournament was inaugurated by lighting the traditional lamp and making the first move on the board was Yatin Parekh, former Mayor of Corporation of Panaji in the presence of Akash Timblo, Executive Director of Fomento Group of Companies, Rajesh Tarkar the president of Rudreshwar Panaji, Arvind Mhamal, Chief Arbiter, Sangam Chodankar and other office bearers of Rudreshwar-Panaji.
Minaxi Joshi compered while Sangam Chodankar, Sports Secretary of Rudershwar Panaji proposed the vote of thanks.
After the end of 2nd round of play IM Thejkumar MS, CM Leon Mendonca, FM Saurah Kherdekar, Arvind Shastry, Ameya Audi, IM Ramnathan Balasubramanian, Marthanan KU, Vishvesh Kochrekar, Sanjay Sindhia, Sibi Visal, Shalon Pais, Hari Chandran, Ashish Madhusudhan, Yash Kapadi along with other players moved to the score of 2 points each.
Thejkumar MS of Karnataka competing in this tournament became India's 50th Grandmaster after scoring two wins from same number of rounds and gaining the required 1.6 Elo points. He also becomes Karnataka's 1st Grandmaster.
