India have maintained their lead with another productive day in the ‘mix’ and ‘super-mix’ categories after the seventh round, on the second day of the third Asian Bridge Championship here on Wednesday.
In the Mix event, India A team used their sharp brain and gained 87. 17 points to achieve the first position. In the Super-mix category, India B team consisting of Aparna Sena, Feroza, Finton & Subhash Bhavanani, showed a similar performance, to gain the first position with 100. 07 points after seven rounds.
In Senior group yesterday, the hosts were in third position. But today, the Indian Seniors came up with a better display to reach second position after 7 rounds. In the Men’s event, the hosts failed to improve from yesterday’s sixth pisition. Now after seven rounds, they stay in the sixth position. Meanwhile, China put up a good show up to sixth round but in the seventh round, Australia overtook them as they extended their tally up to 112. 85 to make it to the first position.
In the Women’s category too, Australia are at the top of the pack with 89.15 points. In this group, India B team are down in sixth position because they were able to collect 46. 96 points only. In this category, Chinese Taipei got 82.24 points to move in to the second position. The round-robin league matches will be played for one more day before the first four teams qualify for the knock-out round.
The Indian teams of all the categories for the upcoming Asian Games, will be selected from the performance at this championship, according to the chief of this tournament Anand Samant, Secretary of Bridge Federation
of India.
