MARGAO: Kanaya Govekar scored twice as Xetrapal Sports Club edged Parish Youth Nuvem 2-1 to book their place in the quarterfinals of the 15th Fatima Cup 2026, organised by Dicarpale Sports Club at its ground on Friday.
The contest between the North and South Goa sides was evenly fought, with both teams creating scoring opportunities.
Nuvem came close to opening the scoring when Albino Pereira's effort struck the crossbar. Xetrapal quickly turned defence into attack and took the lead in the seventh minute through Kanaya Govekar, who made no mistake with his finish.
Nuvem continued to search for an equaliser after the break but wasted a good opportunity when Shannoy Quadros failed to convert a close-range chance.
Xetrapal doubled their advantage in the 55th minute, with Govekar completing his brace. Parish Youth Nuvem reduced the deficit five minutes later through Drawin Colaco, but could not find the equaliser as Xetrapal held on for victory.
Kanaya Govekar was named Player of the Match. Dicarpale Sports Club treasurer Michael Carvalho presented the award.
