Karegal Boys win Khola football

MP Narendra Savoikar says he wants sports activities to develop Khola village adopted by him under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana.

On Sunday, Savoikar inaugurated a 9-a-side football tournament under Sansad Adarsh Gram in association with Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, at Khola panchayat ground.
After inaugurating the one-day tournament, the MP lauded the village youth for organising the tournament that gives everybody a platform to showcase their talents. In all, 19 teams participated and all players were given football shoes and jerseys. Karegal Boys beat Nuvem Sports & Cultural Club, Nuvem (Khola) for the title.
"Khola is perhaps the only village where football tournament of this magnitude is happening. Now, not only this, but many progressive things are happening in Khola and I am happy that all the people are very much cooperating for the progress,"
Savoikar said.
Ex ZP Krishna Velip, Panch Guru Gaunkar, Prashant Kholkar, Rupesh Prabhu Dessai, Harishchandra Kholkar were present for the inaugural function.
The winners took away a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 7,000 and the runners-up had to be content with a trophy and a cash purse of Rs 5,000. Player of the Tournament prize was awarded to Maven Fernandes and Nikhil Pagi was named as the
best goalkeeper.
Quepem constituency block president Sanjay Velip (chief guest), general secretary Sanjay Velip, vice-president Rupesh Prabhu Desai, panch Guru Gounkar, panch Ajay Pagi, ex ZP Krishna Velip, organiser Vikas Velip, refree Sedrik Travaso were present for the finals. Prashant Kholkar compered while the vote of thanks was given by Nandukumar Kholkar.
