Karnataka claimed the overall team championship at the 24th National Para Swimming Championships, demonstrating remarkable talent and teamwork throughout the event. Their athletes excelled across multiple categories, earning recognition for their perseverance and dedication. This victory reinforces Karnataka's status as a frontrunner in para-sports in India.
The event was organised by the Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities in collaboration with the Paralympic Committee of India and the Sports Authority of Goa at the SAG Swimming Pool, Campal. The three-day event showcased an inspiring display of talent, determination, and sportsmanship, with over 500 athletes representing 28 states.
A Special recognition was given to Satendra from Gwalior, who, though not an individual winner, has made India proud with his Padma Shri award, further solidifying his legacy in para-swimming.
The closing ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister of Goa, who led the occasion. He was joined by Subhash Phal Dessai, Minister for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Govind Gaude, Sports Minister, Guruprasad Pawaskar, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Carlos Ferreira, MLA Aldona,Taha Haziq, Secretary for Office of State State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities among others.
The ceremony was not only a celebration but also a moment of recognition. Devendra Jhajharia, a distinguished Paralympian and Padma Shri awardee, was honored for his significant contributions to Indian sports.
The competition witnessed an impressive 29 new Indian records, showcasing the exceptional talent and determination of the athletes.
